Get connected to Peppol
You don’t connect to Peppol directly — you connect through a certified Access Point. Here is the whole process, start to finish.
Before you start
You’ll move faster if you have these ready:
- Your organisation’s registration number (and VAT number, if applicable).
- The electronic-address scheme you’ll use for your Participant ID (often your VAT or organisation number).
- Your accounting / ERP software details, so you can check how it connects.
The steps
- Confirm you need it. Run the quick check if you haven’t already.
- Choose an Access Point. This is your service provider on the network. Compare options on the Find an Access Point page. Many accounting packages have one built in or partner with one.
- Register your Participant ID. Your Access Point registers you in the network’s lookup system (the SMP/SML) so others can find and route to you. This is what makes you “reachable”.
- Connect your software. Either use a built-in integration, an app/plugin, or an API. Smaller senders can often use a web portal provided by the Access Point.
- Send a test document. Most providers let you send a test invoice to confirm formatting and routing before you go live.
- Go live. Start exchanging real documents. Ask trading partners for their Participant IDs.
How long does it take?
For a small business using a provider with a ready-made integration, registration can take a day or two. Custom ERP integrations take longer — plan for a few weeks of development and testing.
What it costs
There’s no fee to “join Peppol” itself. You pay your Access Point — pricing models vary: per-document, monthly subscription, or bundled into your accounting software. Compare a few providers before committing.
Already use accounting software? Check whether it lists Peppol or e-invoicing under its
integrations. Using your existing vendor’s Access Point is usually the quickest route.
After you’re connected
- Share your Participant ID with customers and suppliers.
- Keep your registration details up to date with your Access Point.
- If a document doesn’t arrive, work through the troubleshooting guide.
